Olneyville New York System Restaurant

By | Featured Whats Happening, Inside Rhody, restaurant, RetroBlast | No Comments

In the early 1920’s, Nicholas Stevens and his father Anthony came to the United States from Greece and settled in Brooklyn, NY. Brooklyn is where they operated a very popular candy shop. By the 1930’s, Nicholas and his family moved to Rhode Island and opened a small restaurant where they had a very limited menu, including hot weiners. Their business took off and they moved to a bigger space in 1953 at 20 Plainfield Street, which is the same location as today.

In 1981, this family run business was doing so well, that they decided to open a second location, which is 1012 Reservoir Ave in Cranston.

A hot wiener is closely associated with New York’s Coney Island. Although wieners served by New York Systems today have little resemblance to the traditional Coney Island hot dog, restaurant owners continue to use the name as a way to advertise this popular local cuisine. The traditional wiener is made with a small, thin hot dog made of beef, veal and pork, served in a steamed bun and topped with celery salt, mustard, onions and seasoned meat sauce. This isn’t just your typical hot dog, these are mouthwatering and so incredibly delicious!

You can have a hot wiener “all the way” for just $2.49! What does that exactly mean? It means you want it with all the toppings available. We recommend you get them all! You can add a coffee milk from Munroe Dairy and cheese fries and you will have yourself a full meal for very cheap.

The best part about Olneyville New York System is it is open all the time! Whether you want lunch, or a late-night 2 am snack, they are open and ready to serve you with smiles on their faces. They are open Sunday-Thursday 11 AM – 2 AM and Friday-Saturday 11 AM – 3 AM

Windows on Pawtucket

The Pawtucket Foundation, a non-profit organization based out of Pawtucket, RI focuses on bettering their community’s future by mobilizing and coordinating research, information, talent and resources to positively impact the city.

They are partnering with Art League RI on a new program called “Windows on Pawtucket.” Creative installations will be replacing the vacant, rundown storefront windows in the inner core of downtown Pawtucket. Their main goal is to turn a negative into a positive by getting more people walking on the sidewalks and made aware of the city’s true beauty, while also promoting the creative, small businesses of the state’s and city’s artistic workforce. The windows project will be the start of reimagining the identity of the Pawtucket neighborhood, bringing a new sense of vibrancy and walkability. A simpler way to look at this is an outdoor, downtown wide open art studio for everyone to enjoy.

This project is being designed and supported by Jan Brodie, the Executive Director at The Pawtucket Foundation as well as an entire Art League committee.

They are seeking proposals for artwork to be installed in 20+ storefront display windows and the plan is to install the art sometime around mid-September. Artwork will be showcased for a minimum of 10 months. Artists are invited to submit artwork for consideration in the windows or artwork may be created for a site-specific installation upon selection by the jurying committee.

If you are interested in submitting your art work or want to learn more about this project, visit Together, we can revitalize downtown Pawtucket through artistic expression!

Williams & Stuart Real Estate Offering a $1,000 Scholarship to a Lucky High School Senior

By | Featured Whats Happening, Inside Rhody | No Comments

With the school year coming to an sudden end for High School Seniors across the nation, students and their families are completely devastated. It is quite a disappointment for the Seniors who have lost their prom night, their sports banquets, their senior week and of course the graduation memories that they would have held on to forever. This milestone is something they have waited years for, and in the blink of an eye, its all canceled.

Williams & Stuart Real Estate believes that being involved with and serving the community is a vital part of their mission as a small, locally owned business. They have been fortunate enough to work with several local charities, little league teams, and those in desperate need over the years.

Hearing about the students who aren’t able to proudly walk in their cap and gown and celebrate the past four years of hard work and dedication is what sparked the idea to hold a video contest where a lucky entrant could win $1,000. While they can’t bring back the end of Senior year for the fellow high schoolers, they wanted to find a way to create a fun senior memory from home and offer a little extra money to help students get going on their educational goals.

Williams & Stuart Real Estate hopes this scholarship can bring happiness and something to look forward to during this time of uncertainty. They want nothing more than to honor and recognize all the class of 2020. If you know of a graduating High School Senior, have them participate in this video contest!
