Fight the Fight, Find the Cure

With Breast Cancer awareness month right around the corner the community is coming together to host events to raise recognition and funds to help find a cure. Breast cancer has touched many individuals, including Carl DeRosa, Lang’s Bowlarama general manager. In April of 2009, Carl lost his mother, Carol, to a long fight of breast cancer. Carol adored her family, you could often find her cooking amazing meals for her beloved husband, Carlo, her four children, and grandchildren. Carol spent her entire life helping others, especially those in need. She constantly was donating to different charities, which is why Lang’s Bowlarama has partnered up with Elvira’s Gift For Hope Foundation, to host two fundraising events in Carol’s honor.

Elvira Protano is a Brest Cancer Survivor who founded Elvira’s Gift For Hope Foundation to help women affected by Breast Cancer. Her fundraising efforts help support families by assisting with housing payments, utility bills, child care, transportation for medical treatments and more! Dedication from women like Elvira are the reason why our hope stays strong that one day we will find a cure!

44th Annual Run Around The Block

By | activities, Inside Rhody

September 7th, 2019
Old Center Road, Block Island, RI

This may be the longest run around a block on record. That’s because the particular block in question is actually Block Island, a little piece of paradise just 7 miles long and 3 miles wide off the coast of Rhode Island. And you’ll see most of its beauty — rolling meadows, stone walls, sparkling ponds, towering cliffs —during the Run Around the Block, a 9.3 mile (15K) journey around this stunning island where more than 47% of the area is conservation land.

The race starts at 11:45am on Saturday, September 7. For locals, September is their favorite time of year. The days are still long, the water is still warm, and the summer crowds have thinned out since Labor Day. Most island businesses will still be open, so you’ll find plenty of places to eat, drink, relax and shop before you make the trip back to the mainland.

Run Around the Block has a fairly late starting time, so runners coming over that morning have plenty of time to catch a morning ferry and make it to the race on time. Free bus transportation will take you from ferry to race and back again. Registration costs $30 to $45 depending on when you register. Pre- registration is available at www.active.com.
